Elephant Garlic Allium ampeloprasum

Grow these impressive bulbs for their delicate, mild garlic flavour.  Slightly sweeter than other garlics, Elephant garlic is actually related to the leek family. Delicious roasted or freshly grated into salad dressings.  Fresh young leaves can be used as a garnish for soups, salads or with potatoes.  Plant in an ornamental vegetable garden, or sunny border, where their large round heads of many white flowers look beautiful for weeks on end.  Perfect for bees and pollinating insects too.

Easy to grow in well drained soil, with some good quality compost dug through, in a sunny situation. Water well during dry spells in spring and summer but not once the bulbs are well formed. Harvest at the end of summer, when the leaves start to die back and turn yellow. Carefully lift with a fork and leave to dry in a cool airy place, before storing out of sunlight.

Supplied as young plant in 9cm pot.
